Exploring the Local Area: Top Attractions Near Our Breaza Guest House

By | March 6, 2025

Romania isn’t as talked about as other European countries as a tourist spot, but our country is beautiful enough to be on your bucket list, too! It’s a safe destination, even for solo travelers, and English is widely spoken here.

Be sure to include our charming little town, Breaza, in your itinerary. Pro tip before you go: Carry cash with you as card payments are not always accepted everywhere here. It’s very handy when you go out to shop at farmer’s markets or when you take taxis.

You can reach our town via train or private car rental if you’re coming from Bucharest, the nation’s capital city. Breaza is an ideal year-round destination for its unspoiled natural sceneries and historical landmarks. If you’re arriving in Winter, you’ll get to experience a wonderland teeming with ski resorts.

Here are some attractions near our guest house that you can visit while in Breaza.

  • Parohia Adormirea Maicii Domnului Breaza. A hidden gem for art and architecture lovers, this Orthodox church features ornate paintings on its walls and ceilings. You might even chance upon local events held in its garden, particularly during summer, or even meet the lovely parish priest.
  • St. Nicholas Parish Breaza de Sus. If you’re up for another chapel stop, make your way to St. Nicholas. Visitors often describe it as the loveliest church in Breaza, and we couldn’t agree more. Built in 1777, it’s also considered as one of our town’s most valuable buildings.
  • Transfiguration Church. Dating back to 1892, this simple, historical structure is another worthwhile stop in town. It’s a church of our ancestors, and we’re always happy to share a glimpse of our past to tourists.
  • Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Memorial Museum. Take a break from your church crawl, and visit one of our most popular museums. Constructed in the 1890s, this faux castle was built by a father in memory of his deceased child. Upon arrival, you’ll be given a device that walks you through its history. The people managing the museum are fantastic, so if you have any questions, feel free to approach them. Be sure to time your visit, though, as it’s closed on Mondays. But in case you don’t make it inside, you can still take a stroll in the equally impressive garden, and have the kids run and play for a while.
  • Muzeul Memorial Nicolae Grigorescu. Located close to Bogdan Petriceicu, Hasdeu Memorial Museum is another historical monument in Romania. It’s a small, beautiful museum featuring the masterpieces and life of Nicolae Grigorescu, one of the greatest Romanian painters. Reproductions of his paintings are available for purchase, along with souvenirs you can take home to your loved ones! Just ask the lovely staff.
  • Posada Hunting Museum. If you’re looking for a spot that’s as interesting for  kids as it is for  adults, try this museum. It offers a large collection of exhibits about the history of hunting and forestry. You’ll find hunting weapons and tools used across different stages of human evolution. Hunting trophies are displayed, too! Don’t miss the complex 3D hunting simulator, where you get the chance to practice your hunting skills. In case you’re wondering, this museum is wheelchair accessible and there are assisted listening devices you can take advantage of to know more about the hunting culture in Romania.

Three churches and three museums, and that’s just a small taste of what Breaza and Romania have to offer! We know our country is widely known for the dracula myth, and Bran castle in Transylvania is a must if you’re visiting, but there’s much more to try and see.

If you have time, visit surrounding towns, and you might just find yourself coming back or extending your stay for these underrated stops.
